In the movie Rocky III?

In the final beach scene, did Apollo let Rocky beat him in the foot race to help his confindence or did Rocky actually beat Apollo?

Rocky acutally beat him. This was after the point in the movie where Rocky turned the corner and quit feeling sorry for himself, and once he had his competitive fire back there was no beating him.

    We are led to believe that Rocky beat Apollo fair and square. In real life, 5’5” Stallone could not beat Meriweather ever.

    What actually happened was earlier in the movie when training, Apollo tried to get Rocky to get more speed and would race him on the beach. He got beaten in the first race by Apollo which sparked him stopping and talking with Adrian about wether or not he could fight and eventually admitting he was afraid of Clubber Lang. After talking it out, Adrian got him to put his all in the fight and shortly thereafter the famous Rocky training montauge began.

    During the montauge Rocky started to excel in all aspects of his training. They race again on the beach towards the end of the montauge and this time Rocky beats Apollo, signifying how far he’s come in his training and his readiness to take on the challenger.
